Little Boy Lost!

I just popped into Nikki's bedroom to check on him and found his bed empty. I could hear him sleeping, but the bed was most definitely empty.

I checked the tent under his bed. Train set - check. Little boy - no sign.

Guess where I found him...

Sound asleep on the windowsill!

Of course, by the time I found the camera and turned on the hall lights to take the picture, he'd woken up a bit and was most annoyed by the flash.

If I had realised that all he needed was a couple of bars across the bottom of the window, I could have saved a fortune on that new bed!

Great Big Tardis Box

"Mummy, when is the postman going to bring my Great Big Tardis Box?"

I Wanted You To Be Poorly!

"Mummy, are you poorly?"
"No, I'm fine."
"Oh. I wanted you to be poorly because then I can watch lots of DVDs."

Nothing gets past them, does it!

First Prayer

Nikki made up his first prayer yesterday afternoon:

Thank you Mummy, go to bed. Amen.

I'm not entirely sure what he meant to say... at least he is no longer adamant that you can only say 'amen' at playgroup!

Violin

Nikki is currently obsessed with violins. He needs one, he says. I made an offhanded comment that he should ask Grandma for a violin (she has my old ones from primary school) and he insisted on phoning her every day for a week until she told him that her violins were put away and he couldn't have one.

He ignored all my attempts to help him find a pretend violin, and was rather put out when I said that puzzle pieces and parts of his Brown Stair could not be used as one. Two minutes with Uncle Harry and his rubbish, free-with-a-magazine guitar (which he loves) and the lid from a biro were transformed into this:

I don't even know where he saw violins being played in the first place! I always said that I would make Nikki choose cello if he wanted to play a string instrument, because I know from experience how bad violin sounds when you start out. If this keeps up, I may have to give in and see if there are any Suzuki teachers in my area...

Time To Clean...

My little nudist floor-sweeper

Nikki decided that rather than get his pyjamas on after his bath, he would sweep the floors. I can forgive him thinking that the mop-without-cloth would do the job, but sunglasses at 7pm when it has been raining all day?!

Rock Star?

I am almost certain that Nicholas will be a musician, at the very least as a hobby. He is always singing and/or playing with instruments.

Although I try and give him only well-tuned 'proper' instruments (bells, xylophone, recorder, keyboard etc.) he got this tacky toy guitar in a magazine my auntie bought him and loves it!

This is an example of one of his many daily 'concerts'...

Sometimes he sings with actual words (nursery rhymes etc.) but more often it is his own compositions.

And if you think the sunglasses look a bit off - he has learned how to put them on himself, but hasn't figured out which way up they go...

Smartypants!

I have been trying to get Nikki to understand the concept of words being made of sounds. He knows all his letter sounds (thanks to that infernal leapfrog dvd) but doesn't seem to 'get' that apple starts with an 'a' sound.

In an attempt to encourage him, I asked him to guess what his snack would be. I thought he would get it really easily, since he picked it out yesterday, so I asked him "What is round and starts with a 'd' sound".

He grinned and answered "The letter D!"

The answer I wanted was doughnut, but I can't say he was wrong!

Cannons in Canaan!

Nikki has been enjoying his church stories (as he insists on calling them) but the other night he was rather worried when I was reading about Abram and his journey to Canaan. He kept pointing at the picture with lots of people and going 'boom boom' rather sadly. It took me a while before I caught on - he thought that they were going to cannons and were going to be blown up! Poor baby! He was fine once I explained that they would be safe, and nobody was getting 'cannon-ed'...
